LiftMaster Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Bedford Owner’s Guide

LiftMaster keypad and intercom repair in Bedford typically runs between $145 and $380 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad face, the radio receiver board, or the full intercom module. We carry LiftMaster-compatible keypads and intercom parts on our trucks and can usually complete the repair same-day when the part is in stock. Most Bedford homeowners discover the failure the hard way: the gate stops answering the code, the intercom rings but won’t release the latch, or the keypad lights up but the gate won’t move. Adrian Vance has been fixing these exact failures across Bedford since 2014, and the fix is usually simpler than homeowners expect.

Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To

We service the full LiftMaster gate line: the LA400, LA412, LA500, CSL24V, and the newer EKPP keypad and KPR2000 intercom/telephone entry units. The keypad we recommend for most Bedford residential gates is the LiftMaster 387LM or the newer 878MAX universal keypad, both of which pair cleanly with LiftMaster gate receivers running Security+ 2.0 protocol.

Here’s a compatibility gotcha most pages won’t tell you: if your gate opener was made before 2010 and still runs the original receiver board, a brand-new Security+ 2.0 keypad will not pair no matter how many times you press the learn button. In those cases we install an external receiver module, which costs about $40 extra in parts and takes fifteen minutes. We’d rather tell you that up front than sell you a keypad that won’t talk to your opener.

On the intercom side, the KPR2000 and the older KPW250 are both serviceable. The KPR2000 uses a telephone-entry module with a relay board that fails in Bedford heat more often than the keypad itself. We stock OEM LiftMaster replacement boards and quality aftermarket equivalents from Topens and GTO, and we’ll tell you which one makes sense for your unit before we quote anything.

Signs Your LiftMaster Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

Signs Your LiftMaster Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
  • Keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. This is almost always the radio signal not reaching the receiver, not a dead keypad. We test signal strength first. In Bedford neighborhoods with dense fencing and metal gates, that signal can get eaten before it reaches the opener.
  • Certain codes work, others don’t. LiftMaster keypads store up to 25 PINs. If one code fails while others work, the keypad memory is fine but that specific button contact is worn or corroded. We can clean the contact or replace the face, not the whole unit.
  • Intercom rings but won’t release the gate. On the KPR2000, this points to the relay board, not the handset. The relay that fires the gate latch is a $30 part. We’ve replaced dozens of them in Bedford homes along Harwood Road and the L.B. Houston corridor.
  • Keypad works only when pressed hard or at an angle. The rubber membrane under the buttons degrades in Texas heat. After four or five Bedford summers, that membrane cracks and the carbon contacts stop bridging. A replacement membrane is the cheapest fix we do on these units.
  • The unit is completely dead, no backlight, no response. On intercom systems, check the transformer first. Bedford power surges from summer storms take out the low-voltage transformer before they damage the intercom board. We test line voltage at the unit before recommending any part.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what LiftMaster keypad and intercom repair costs in Bedford, based on what we actually charge:

  • Keypad face or membrane replacement: $145-$210 installed. The part runs $60-$90 and labor takes under an hour.
  • Full keypad replacement (new unit, paired, tested): $220-$310 installed. Price varies by whether your opener needs the external receiver module we mentioned earlier.
  • Intercom relay board replacement: $180-$280 installed. The board itself is $30-$80; the labor is diagnosing and rewiring the low-voltage side.
  • Full intercom module replacement (KPR2000 or equivalent): $320-$380 installed, depending on whether we can reuse the existing mounting box and wiring run.

Every one of these prices is written down and handed to you before we start. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1, and we’ve done it on every one of the 22,000+ gate jobs we’ve handled since 2014. The written price includes parts, labor, and pairing the unit to your LiftMaster opener. If the gate doesn’t respond when we leave, the fix is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before calling: confirm the keypad has fresh batteries, confirm the breaker feeding the gate opener is on, and confirm the keypad backlight comes on. If the backlight comes on and the gate still won’t move, that’s a signal problem or a receiver problem, and those need a technician with a meter and a pairing procedure.

Where DIY goes wrong on LiftMaster units is the pairing sequence. Security+ 2.0 pairing requires precise timing between the learn button and the keypad entry. Get it wrong and you can erase the codes already stored, and now you have a gate that doesn’t answer anyone. Intercom work involves low-voltage wiring at the relay and telephone entry module, and wiring a relay backwards can burn out the board instantly.

We don’t charge for the phone call. If you describe what’s happening, we’ll tell you whether it’s worth a service visit or a battery first. Call (817) 572-8590.
