FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Bedford Owner’s Guide

We keep FAAC weldment parts on the truck and can usually have a cracked hinge or sheared bracket repaired and the gate swinging again the same day. Most FAAC welding and fabrication work in Bedford runs between $225 and $650 installed, depending on whether we’re rebuilding an existing bracket or fabricating a new mount plate from bar stock. Owners typically find the problem when the gate starts dragging at one corner, or when a hinge pin wears through and the leaf drops a half inch on its travel arc.

We’re an independent service provider, not a FAAC dealer or affiliate. That independence matters here: when a weld fails on a FAAC gate, we repair it. We don’t use a broken weld as an excuse to sell you a new operator. We document the repair with photos of the original break, the cleaned joint, and the finished weld, so you can see exactly what was done.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

Most FAAC residential and light-commercial swing systems share similar chassis geometry, but the weld points that fail vary by series. The 400-series operators (402, 412, 415) use a cast aluminum housing bolted to a steel post bracket, and it’s that bracket, not the operator body, that usually cracks first. The 750 and 770 series bolt to larger steel plates that carry more torque, which means weld fatigue shows up at the hinge side instead of the operator side when a gate leaf starts carrying water weight or a tree root shifts the column.

Identifying what you have is straightforward. The operator nameplate carries the model number, and the post bracket will have a FAAC part number stamped into it if it’s original equipment. We match that number against our stock of FAAC OEM brackets and, where an OEM part is on backorder, we fabricate from A36 steel plate or 6061 aluminum depending on what the original part was. For most Bedford residential gates, a quality aftermarket bracket fabricated to the same hole pattern and thickness holds up as well as the OEM piece. The difference is lead time, not performance: we can cut and drill a replacement bracket in about an hour.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: the 400-series post bracket is not interchangeable with the 750-series bracket even though both bolt to the operator with four M8 fasteners. The hole spacing is different by 14 millimeters. We measure on-site rather than trusting the operator model alone, because a prior repair may have mixed parts across series.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate leaf sags at the latch end and scrapes the concrete. The most common cause is a hinge weld that has started to stretch or crack, usually from years of the gate stopping abruptly against the opening limit. The leaf may have lost only three or four degrees of travel, but the scrape mark tells the story.
  • You hear a creak or metallic click at the same point in every cycle. This is typically a cracked weld breathing under load, not a hinge that needs oil. The sound is the crack opening and closing as torque loads and unloads. Lubricating a cracked weld changes nothing; it needs to be ground out and re-welded.
  • The operator bracket shows hairline rust lines radiating from a bolt hole. On steel brackets, that’s the early fingerprint of fatigue. Texas humidity and the wet-dry cycle of Bedford summers accelerate it, particularly on uncoated edges where the factory finish was scratched during installation.
  • The gate stops mid-cycle and the FAAC board flashes a torque or obstruction fault. If there’s no visible obstruction, a bent or cracked mount plate can be shifting the operator out of alignment, which changes the torque signature enough to fault the board. The mechanical fix comes first; the board is telling you about it.
  • One hinge pin looks like it’s sitting at an angle instead of vertical. The pin itself rarely bends. What happens is the hinge leaf weld deforms around the pin barrel, so the pin cants. That’s a fabrication repair: cut the old hinge free, clean the post face, weld a new hinge in square, and re-hang the leaf.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what FAAC welding and fabrication work costs in Bedford, in real numbers:

Job Typical Price What Drives It
Weld repair on a cracked post bracket or hinge, in place $225-$375 Access to the joint, how much grinding is needed to clean the old weld, whether the gate needs to come off for clearance
Fabricate and install a new steel mounting plate $350-$550 Thickness of plate, number of holes to drill, paint or powder-coat match
Full hinge replacement with fabricated hinge leaves, both top and bottom $450-$650 Weight of the gate, whether it’s a single or double leaf, post condition

Every quote is written before any work starts, per Haven Standard Clause 1. That written price covers the part, the fabrication, the welding, and the re-hang if the gate came off. There’s no surprise invoice at the end. We photograph the finished weld and the new part in place, and that photo log stays with your job record.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

Let’s be direct: welding a gate bracket isn’t a weekend task if you haven’t welded load-bearing steel before. A bad weld on a swing gate can fail without warning, and a gate leaf that weighs 300 pounds falling toward a person or a car is not a minor injury risk. If you have a MIG or stick welder, a grinder, and real experience with weld penetration on 1/4-inch plate, welding a cracked bracket in place is within reach. A bracket replacement that requires cutting and drilling new steel is a step beyond, and re-hanging a sagging gate solo is where we get called to fix both the original problem and the new one.

Most Bedford homeowners are better served by calling us. We’ll bring the steel, the welder, and the tools to square the gate back up, and the repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we make it right at no charge. Call (817) 572-8590 and a live person answers, any hour.
