Elite Welding & Fabrication: The Bedford Owner’s Guide
If the weld on your Elite gate has cracked, separated, or started sagging at the hinge, we can usually repair or fabricate the replacement section and have it installed the same week, with most Bedford jobs running between $240 and $680 depending on the extent of the break and whether we’re rebuilding an existing section or fabricating a new one. The price is written and handed to you before any work starts, under Haven Standard Clause 1. What owners typically notice first is a gate that drags on the driveway, a weld line that shows rust staining beneath the paint, or a hinge post that has pulled away from the frame by a quarter inch or more. These are not cosmetic problems. A cracked weld on a cantilever or swing gate puts the entire weight of the leaf on components that were never meant to carry it alone.
We’re an independent gate service company in Bedford. We are not affiliated with Elite, but we work on their gates daily, and we keep the steel, the jigs, and the welding equipment on the truck to match their factory geometry.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gates sold in Texas fall into two broad families: the swing gate models (common in Bedford subdivisions along Harwood Road and near L.B. Houston Athletic Complex) and the slide or cantilever models you’ll see on wider suburban driveways. The welding and fabrication needs are different for each. Swing gates tend to fail at the hinge-to-frame connection or the mid-rail joint. Slide gates fail at the roller carriage mount, the top guide bracket, or the frame corners where the square tube meets the end posts.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha: Elite uses two different steel wall thicknesses depending on the generation. Early-2010s gates shipped with 14-gauge tube. Newer production runs, roughly 2018 forward, moved to a heavier 11-gauge on the main structural rails. When we quote a fabrication repair, we match the steel to what’s actually on your gate, not what’s listed in a generic parts diagram. That’s why we measure before we quote. Getting this wrong means the new section flexes differently than the old one, and you end up with a second crack twelve months later in a different location.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: there’s no such thing as an “Elite weld” for a replacement section. Elite does not sell pre-welded frame sections as a separate SKU. Their factory replacements are full gate leaves or complete frame kits. For a cracked joint or a damaged section, the repair is fabrication work done on-site or at our shop using steel matched to your gate’s wall thickness and profile. That’s the honest answer. Do not accept a patch plate bolted over a cracked weld. It transfers stress to the bolt holes and cracks the tube behind it. A proper repair is cut out, re-welded with full penetration, ground back, primed, and painted.
Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- Rust bleeding through the paint at a joint. This is the earliest sign in Bedford’s humidity cycle. The weld line oxidizes first because it’s the metallurgically weakest point. If you see orange staining at a corner or hinge mount, the weld is already degrading.
- Gate dragging or scraping near the latch side. When a weld lets go, the frame sags. The gap at the bottom of the free end shrinks, and the gate starts catching on the concrete or the track. That’s structural flex, not an alignment issue.
- A visible crack at a hinge or corner joint. Not subtle. You can see daylight through the weld line or the paint has split along the joint. This is the stage where waiting longer means the gate can bind and overload the motor.
- Gate shaking or vibrating when it’s moving. A rigid frame moves quietly. A resonance or chatter during travel means a joint has loosened or cracked and the frame is flexing under load.
- The gate post moves when the gate hits the open or close stop. If the post flexes or the concrete around it has cracked, the base is shifting. The weld didn’t so much fail first here; it’s being overloaded by a foundation problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Bedford, most weld repairs on an Elite swing gate run $240 to $420. That covers cutting out the failed section, welding in matched steel, grinding the joint flush, and priming and painting to match. A full section rebuild, where we replace an entire bottom rail or hinge-side stile, runs $380 to $680. A complete frame fabrication for a badly damaged leaf starts at $850 and depends on the gate’s dimensions and whether we’re reusing your pickets or building new infill.
Every quote includes the part number (when applicable), the steel gauge, the weld type, and the labor hours, written in plain language before we touch anything. You get a photo record of what we found and what we installed when we leave, which is Haven Standard Clause 4. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld we made fails within a year, we fix it. No argument, no fee, no expiration date inside that window. We also stock a selection of Elite-compatible parts on the truck, including hinge brackets, roller carriages, and top guides for the common slide-gate models.
DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect the damage. Look at the weld lines with a flashlight. Run a finger along the joint and feel for separation. Take photos at multiple angles and measure the gap if one exists. That’s useful information for whatever comes next.
What we’d tell you not to do is weld it yourself. Gate welding involves two specific hazards: the gate is under tension or load even when it’s sitting still, and a welder on a residential driveway is working over concrete. Molten spatter on concrete pops and can throw debris. In the spring, Bedford grass pollen and dry brush around gate posts are a fire risk with any open flame or arc work. Beyond the danger, a household 110-volt MIG welder cannot make a full-penetration weld on 11-gauge steel. The repair fails, and now you have a slag-covered joint that costs more to redo. If the weld has already failed or the gate is sagging, call us at (817) 572-8590. We’ll look at it and give you a written price before any cutting starts.
FAQs
A properly cut-out, full-penetration weld in matched steel lasts 10 to 15 years in Bedford’s climate, roughly the same lifespan as the original factory weld. The variable is drainage: gate joints that sit in standing water or sprinkler overspray rust faster regardless of the weld quality.
In almost every case, yes. We cut the failed weld back to clean steel, weld in fresh material matched to your gate’s tube thickness, and rebuild the joint. Full gate replacement is only worth considering when the frame is rusted through in multiple sections or the leaf has twisted beyond what straightening can correct. Call (817) 572-8590 and we’ll tell you which situation you have.
Most single-joint repairs on an Elite swing gate are done in one visit, typically four to six hours including paint cure time. A full frame section rebuild usually takes one day in our shop with the gate leaf removed, then reinstallation on a second visit. Everything is quoted in writing before we begin.
We stock matched 14-gauge and 11-gauge steel tube on the truck, along with Elite-compatible hinge brackets, roller carriages, top guides, and common motor parts for Elite, LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls openers. If we don’t have a specific bracket on hand, we can typically have it within one to two days and fabricate the steel work on-site while we wait.
