Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication: The Bedford Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible welding and fabrication for Bedford homeowners, with most fabricated bracket and gate-frame repairs running between $180 and $520 installed, depending on what failed and how much steel needs to be replaced. Same-day service is available for most Mighty Mule welding jobs when we have the part on the truck, which we usually do. The way most Bedford owners discover this kind of failure is simple: the gate sags, the opener strains against a cracked weld, or a bracket tears loose and the arm swings free. What started as a small crack in a welded joint becomes a gate that will not close, a motor that burns itself out trying, and a driveway that stays open all night.

Before we touch anything, you get a written price. That is not a courtesy here. It is how we have worked since Adrian Vance started this company in 2014, and it is Clause 1 of our Haven Standard: have it in writing before the first tool comes out.

Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To

Mighty Mule builds their automatic openers around a few distinct series: the MM and FM lines for light-duty swing gates, the M and RB series for heavier residential gates, and the E-Z Gate line for smaller single-leaf setups. The welding and fabrication we do in Bedford breaks down the same way. A weld on an MM360 bracket is a different job than fabricating a new mount for an M572, because the arm geometry and the mounting plate thickness are not the same across series.

Here is the compatibility gotcha most owners run into: Mighty Mule changed mounting bracket dimensions between production runs on the MM series. A bracket that fits a 2017 MM362 will not necessarily line up on a 2021 unit, even though both say “MM.” That is why we ask for the model number and a photo of the damaged part before we quote. If you can read the label on the control board, even better. The board model tells us which bracket generation you have. We carry OEM Mighty Mule brackets where they are still available, and we fabricate equivalents when the OEM part is discontinued or overpriced for what it is. Our fabricated pieces are cut and welded in-house, not reboxed imports, and they are built to the same bolt pattern and thickness as the original.

Vance Gate Repair Bedford is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Mighty Mule, and we tell you that because it matters when you are choosing between an OEM part and a fabricated one. We will give you the honest spread on both.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags toward the latch side. A cracked weld at the hinge post or the mid-rail lets the gate drop, which throws off the opener’s travel and makes the arm work against its own geometry every cycle.
  • The opener arm bolt hole is wallowed out. On Mighty Mule swing arms, the bolt at the gate bracket is the first point to wear. A wallowed hole means the arm has been slamming against the bolt for months, and the bracket usually needs to be cut off and replaced, not just tightened.
  • The gate bounces when it stops. A fractured weld at the post or the gate frame means the gate flexes under deceleration instead of stopping clean. The opener thinks the gate is at the limit, but the gate is still moving.
  • The arm bracket has pulled away from the gate face. If you can see daylight between the mounting plate and the gate rail, the welds or lag screws have started to fail. Continuing to run the opener like this will strip the arm’s internal gears.
  • Rust bleeding through the paint at a joint. In Bedford, the freeze-thaw cycle in winter and the spring humidity work on welds at the bottom rail and hinge points first. A rust line at a weld is a stress crack forming under the surface.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most Mighty Mule welding and fabrication jobs in Bedford run between $180 and $520 installed. A simple bracket replacement with a stock or fabricated mount is on the lower end. A cracked hinge post or a mid-rail that needs sectioning and a new steel insert is on the higher end. The spread comes down to how much of the existing steel is salvageable and whether we are cutting out one weld or rebuilding a corner.

Included in the price: the part or fabricated piece, cutting out the failed steel, welding with proper penetration on the new joint, grinding and painting the repair, and a photo record of what was found and what was installed. Most welding repairs run one to three hours. The price you sign off on is the price you pay.

And under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, if the weld fails or the part does not hold within one year, we make it right at no charge. That promise is in writing on every Bedford job we touch.

DIY or Call Us?

We are not going to tell you to never weld on your own gate. Some Bedford homeowners are fully capable of running a bead on a cracked hinge plate, and if you have a welder, a grinder, and the time, more power to you. What we will tell you is what goes wrong when a Mighty Mule weld repair is done wrong: the gate is now too stiff and the opener burns out, or too weak and the gate cracks again within a season. The Motor is not tolerant of sloppy geometry. If the gate does not swing level and free after your repair, the opener eats the cost.

Here is the safety line, plainly: gate posts and gate frames under spring tension can shift when you cut out a weld. If you are not sure how to brace the gate before cutting, do not guess. Same goes for working near the opener arm under power. Disconnect the opener and secure the gate first, always.

What we recommend, and what most Bedford customers end up doing, is calling us at (817) 572-8590. We quote a flat installed price, you approve it in writing, and a background-checked technician shows up with the part, the welder, and the bracing. You get the record when we leave. Name what you found. Name what it costs. Name what you left behind. That is how we work.
